A NINE year-old schoolgirl gymnast was left for dead by a hit and run driver who sped off as she lay broken and bleeding in a Birmingham road.

Little Paige Conlon, from Shard End, was last night recovering in hospital, but was warned she faces operations to pin together her battered bones. Her family fear the Heathlands Junior School pupil's injuries are so severe her dreams of becoming a top class gymnast have been shattered.

And they have cancelled Christmas, vowing to wait until Paige is in the clear, and out of hospital.
